Survival and growth performance of mullet fish using Prosopis juliflora pod powder incorporated feed

Abstract

The survival and growth performance of fingerling sized mullet fish (Mugil spp.) using P. J. pod powder as a test ingredient at different level viz. 10 to 40 % was studied by determining growth in term of weight and survival number in sea water rearing system for the first time. The highest growth performance was found in 10% P.J. pod incorporated feed and lowest weight gain was recorded in fish fed with 40%. However, 20% was at par with 10% P.J. pod incorporated feed. The survival rate was highest in 20 % than other types at the end of each experiment. Compare to the economic of fish feed among the control, 10% and 20% P.J. pod powder incorporated feed, 20% P.J. pod containing feed was more economical than other two feed. It was proved that, 20% P.J. pod incorporated feed was better in so far as economics, survival rate and growth were concern. The advantage of using non conventional ingredient at different level with respect to growth and survival is discussed.
