Abstract
Fourteen castor genotypes including three checks GCH 7, DCS 9 and OCH 177 were studied for oil quality and fatty acid profile comparison. The castor spikes were harvested at physiological maturity. The highest value of 100 seed weighti.e. 33.5 g was determined in genotype MCI 13 whereas, the seed yield was found maximum in ANDCH-11 -01 (1936 kg/ha). The seed oil content was determined maximum (50.4%) in ANDCH-11-01 followed by PCH 288 and MCI 13 genotypes which has 49.5% and 49.5%, respectively. Ricinoleic acid, the predominant monounsaturated fatty acid in castor oil, varied from 85.33 (MCI 13) to 88.13 (RHC 247) among castor genotypes. The ricinoleic acid content was significantly negatively correlated with oleic acid (r = - 0.745**) and linolenic acid (r = · 0.719**). The present study is vital for developing castor hybrids for better oil yield and high ricinoleic acid content.
