Abstract
Investigations on the relative efficiency of bajra and guar varieties in utilizing rainfall and stored soil moisture were carried out on loamy sand soil of the middle Gujarat at Gujarat Agricultural University, Anand Campus during Kharif 1976 to 1978. The results suggested that 'J-1399' variety of bajra followed by 'BJ-104' gave higher yield and moisture use efficiency than the rest of the varieties tried. Among guar varieties, guar 'Malosan' followed by 'Kutch-8' resulted in higher seed yield and moisture-use efficiency than the rest. Considering the relative efficiency of bajra and guar varieties together, cultivation of bajra appeared to be an appropriate choice of crops, providing higher moisture use efficiency and monetary returns.
