Occurrence of Banana Mosaic in South Gujarat Area and its Host-Range

Abstract
Banana mosaic is widely distributed in the South Gujarat region. Heart rot was found to be associated with mosaic, and it appears to represent a different syndrome of the same infection. Infected plants do not produce bunches, resulting in yield losses of about 10%. Zinnia elegans Jacq., Chrysanthemum sp., Centaurea cyanus Druce and Dianthus barbatus L. were identified as new hosts for the virus. As Datura stramonium L. was found to be an efficient host, it is proposed for use as a test plant. The virus was considered to be Cucumis virus-1.
