Abstract
Gene actions for yield and its components were studied in the F₁s of a 7 × 7 half diallel cross involving seven different lines of Lablab purpureus (L.) Sweet. Variance due to GCA and SCA along with D and H components revealed that both additive and non-additive gene actions were in operation in the inheritance of all the traits studied. Further, dominance ratio indicated the presence of overdominance in almost all the characters. Heritability estimates were high for pod length and number of seeds per pod, indicating the prospect of involving these traits through selection, while it was moderate to low for days to first picking, number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant and pod yield per plant.
