Abstract
Thirty-six hybrids of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) were grown along with 3 female parents (fertile counterparts of male steriles), 12 male parents, and GJ 108 and CSH 5 as checks. Additive genetic variance predominantly governed the expression of yield and components in the present set of material. Line 2077 A was a superior female for number of grains and grain yield, whereas SPV 228 and SPV 230 were good combiners for these characters. The specific combination 2219A × SPV 226 appeared most desirable for grain yield.
