Intercropping Groundnut and Soybean with Cotton

Abstract
This investigation was carried out at the Main Station for Oilseeds Research at Junagadh, during kharif seasons of 1971-72 and 1973-74 to study the possibilities of intercropping groundnut and soybean with cotton under rainfed/irrigated conditions. The results indicated that intercropping of two rows of groundnut 'Junagadh-11' with Deviraj cotton planted at 180 cm apart was the most profitable. It gave additional income of 19.7, 25.2, 6.6 and 148 per cent over sole crop of cotton planted at 180 cm apart, sole cotton planted at 90 cm apart, groundnut alone and soybean alone, respectively. Growing groundnut as a sole crop fetched higher gross returns over sole crop of cotton or soybean.
