Abstract
The effect of probiotic Lactobacillus acidophilus was studied at the rate of 0.5 × 109 to 1.5 × 109 CFU/m3 water on growth and survival of black tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon larvae and post larvae (Nauplii to PL-20). Use of L. acidophilus at the rate of 1.5 × 109CFU/m3 water showed significantly (P<0.05) higher length and weight over the control. At PL-20 stage, highest length (14.05 + 0.06 mm) and weight (3.27 ± 0.11 mg) was recorded in the treatment group 1.5×109 CFU/m3 probiotic in rearing water that was 5 % and 27 % higher as compared to the control respectively. Survival at PL-20 stage was also significantly (P<0.05) higher over the control. Highest survival was found 58.25 ± 3.62 % with L. acidophilus at the rate of 1.5×109 CFU/m3 that was 69.58 % higher as compared to the control (34.35 ± 1.33 %).
