Bionomics of Sugarcane Top Borer, Tryporyza nivella Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) Under Junagadh Condition

Abstract

Bionomics of sugarcane top borer, Tryporyza nivella (F.) have been studied in detail under laboratory conditions at Junagadh during 1981-82. Average incubation period was recorded as 7.97 days, while the first, second, third, fourth and fifth instar laryal duration were completed in 2.13, 4.63, 5.23, 5.85 and 6.42 days, respectively. Pre-pupal and pupal periods lasted for 1.45 and 11.80 days, respectively. Longevity of male and female moths was on an average 3.63 and 3.44 days, respectively. Mean number of egg maasses laid/female was 4.22, whereas, the average fecundity of female was 94.15 eggs, The sex-ratio (male; female) was worked out to be 1 : 1.109 under laboratory condition,
