A Note on Nutritive Value of Pigeon Pea Mixture [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.] Gotar and Wheat Straw Mixture in Cattle

Abstract
An effort was made to evaluate pigeon pea gotar and wheat straw mixture in 75:25 ratio for its nutritive value in cattle. The metabolism trial conducted on five bullocks suggested that pigeon pea gotar contained 11.13% CP and 5.70% EE, while wheat straw contained 3.01% CP. The mixture provided 3.30 per cent DCP and 54.79 per cent TDN on dry matter basis. Bullocks maintained positive nitrogen (+7.67 g/day), calcium (+20.94 g/day) and marginally positive phosphorus (+1.16 g/day) balances. It is concluded that the combination is sufficient to meet maintenance requirements without concentrate supplementation.
